AOD9604, also known as Anti-Obesity Drug 9604, is a synthetic peptide derived from the C-terminal fragment (amino acids 177–191) of human growth hormone (hGH). It was developed to selectively mimic its lipolytic effects without influencing IGF-1 levels or anabolic pathways.

Mechanisms of Action


AOD9604 promotes lipolysis (the breakdown of triglycerides into free fatty acids) and inhibits lipogenesis (the synthesis of new lipids). It acts primarily on white abdominal fat by stimulating mitochondrial β-oxidation and inhibiting acetyl-CoA carboxylase.

In experimental models, the peptide increases lipid metabolism without altering blood glucose levels or insulin resistance. This distinguishes it from full-length hGH due to its improved safety profile, with GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status in the United States.

Research Applications


Early research has investigated AOD9604 for obesity, demonstrating reductions in adipose tissue in both preclinical and human studies, with subcutaneous doses ranging from 200–500 mcg/day.

Animal studies have explored its regenerative potential in osteoarthritis, showing improvements in cartilage regeneration in collagenase-induced knee models, as well as potential effects in hypercholesterolemia, bone repair, and cartilage repair.

Currently, ongoing studies are exploring its potential use in metabolic disorders and osteoporosis, although clinical evidence in humans remains preliminary and lacks broad therapeutic approval.
